From Filler to Flips: 3 Types of Lip Injections for Fuller, Plumper Lips

Needle used for dermal lip fillers

Lip filler is undoubtedly a popular option for lip enhancement, but it’s far from the only one. Whether you’re looking for a subtle boost or a more dramatic transformation, our experienced injectors offer multiple approaches to lip injections. Fuller, plumper lips are only an appointment away—read on to discover our med spa treatment options.

Lip Filler Injections

The most popular approach to lip enhancement, lip filler injections add volume using hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar found naturally in your body that attracts and holds water, and it has a plumping effect when injected just under the skin.

Filler treatments are highly customizable, so you can enjoy a subtle volume increase or opt for a more pronounced pout. By adjusting the amount of filler injected and where it’s placed (with the guidance of an experienced injector, of course), you can achieve a look that flatters your unique facial anatomy.

You’ll see results right away, though you may have some swelling for a few days. Most people find their lip injections last between 6 and 12 months.

Lip Flip

If you want to enhance your upper lip without actually adding volume, a lip flip may be the right treatment for you. A lip flip uses 2 to 4 units of BOTOX® Cosmetic to relax the top lip, allowing it to turn slightly upward to reveal more of the lip.

While this treatment won’t physically add volume, it is ideal for anyone who feels like their top lip disappears when they smile. Many people choose to add a lip flip to their filler treatment as a finishing touch.

Keep in mind you won’t see your results right away (as you would with lip fillers). BOTOX takes 5 to 7 days to take full effect.

Smooth Lip Threads

Injectable PDO threads boost collagen production to smooth vertical lines around the lips (smoker’s lines) and subtly enhance lip fullness and definition. These threads are made of a dissolvable substance called polydioxanone (PDO). Once injected around the lips, they stimulate your body’s natural collagen production to ease fine lines and discreetly enhance volume.

You’ll likely notice the difference immediately, though best results occur with a series of multiple treatments. We recommend 1 treatment a month for 3 months. As the threads gradually dissolve and new collagen forms over the next few months, you’ll enjoy long-lasting improvements. PDO threads work beautifully when combined with a lip flip for a more affordable alternative to fillers.
