4-Step Skincare Routine for Beginners

Skincare Regimen

Starting a new skincare routine can be extremely overwhelming. With all the products, who would even know where to start?

For beginners, we suggest starting off with 4 easy products: a cleanser, toner, exfoliator, and a moisturizer. Knowing your skin type will help you find products that are specific to you, saving you time and producing quicker results. If doing research on your skin type is not enough, try asking your dermatologist or aesthetician for help.

Step 1: Cleanser – This is one of the more important products in your regimen. Cleansers help prevent acne and unclog pores by removing pollutants. These include left over makeup, dead skin, oil, and dirt. This should be done in the morning before applying makeup, as well as at night before going to sleep.

Step 2: Toner – Toners provide several healthy skin benefits that many don’t even know about. Toners can shrink pores, restore your skin’s pH balance, refresh skin, and prevent ingrown hairs (those that contain glycolic or other alpha hydroxy acids). A toner should be applied in the morning and evening after cleansing.

Step 3: Exfoliator – Exfoliating the skin (body and face) can help prevent breakouts and blackheads. This process removes dead skin cells and other pollutants which will reveal a more soft, glowing complexion. This step should only be performed up to two times a week.

Step 4: Moisturizer – Moisturizing your skin helps your skin stay young by replenishing the skins moisture that may have been stripped from cleansing. Without moisturizing our skin, we can actually develop more oil which can cause acne. A great way to imagine this is a dry desert floor. The surface is dry, cracked, and flakey due to the lack of moisture. Your skin is the same way, but will produce excess oil because it thinks it is extremely dry and in need of additional moisture (oil). We suggest moisturizing after the use of a cleanser and toner. Applying a moisturizer in the morning with an SPF will provide protection from sun damage, and any anti-aging moisturizer will help smooth out wrinkles, keep skin plump and youthful, and help keep your moisture level where is should be.

Sticking to any regimen is the key to making it work! Get into the habit easily by taking just a few minutes in the morning and night to pamper yourself. Leaving your products out will help you remember at first, but soon it will become a habit! We are excited for your new skincare journey, and are here to help suggest products and help you get a better control over your skin!
